Experience a test of endurance in the Berkshires with the Mount Greylock Traverse! This hiking challenge spans approximately 17 miles and climbs roughly 4,600 feet across the rugged spine of the highest peak in Massachusetts! For a winter completion, complete this during the official winter season, between December 21st and March 21st!
Designed for experienced hikers, this point-to-point trek requires physical stamina and careful navigation. The route crosses multiple summits, offers hidden lookouts, and showcases the diverse beauty of the Greylock Range in a single day.

Direction: This challenge requires a southbound route ONLY! The reason for this is to make it more challenging!

The Route
To complete this challenge, hikers must follow this specific southbound route!
The Start: Begin at the Phelps Road Trailhead in North Adams (there is a parking lot on Route 2)!
The First Summits: Follow the Appalachian Trail (AT) south to summit Mount Prospect Lookout, Mount Williams, and Mount Fitch!
The Detour: Reach the Robinson’s Point junction and complete the .5-mile out-and-back trek to the beautiful lookout!
The High Point: Ascend to the 3,491-foot summit of Mount Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts!
The Descent: Continue south on the AT toward Jones Nose!
The Finish: Transition to the Woodason Spring Trail towards Rounds Rock, complete the 1-mile Rounds Rock loop, then follow the trail out to the Visitors Center in Lanesborough via the Woodason Spring Trail and finally the Bradley Farm Trail!
